You want to get into home business, but you have no idea what it entails. It can be a scary venture, but with the right information and knowledge it can be the best decision you ever made.

These are some of the most common questions that come up when it comes to a home business, and this is designed for someone who is just starting into home business.

So what is a home business? Well, as the name suggests it is a business that you run out of your home. Now how it works is a company will sell you a franchise of sorts at an affordable price compared to offline franchises. And one of the great things about a home business is that there is no overhead, you dont have to rent out a storefront to operate. Unlike traditional franchises, you can start making money in the same day, there is none of the 3-5 years it can take to see a profit.

What is the difference between an online and a home business? Well, none...a home business is an online business. The only reason that most companies call it a home business is that it is easier to sell that opportunity. Think about it, when you hear that words home business, it sounds warmer than online business. Other than that they are the same.

How exactly does it work? You get sponsored by one of the other franchisers, and you either buy the product to resell or you pay a one time fee to join the company. You are then set up with your own webpage, a company one with your username so you can get credit when someone joins through your site. You also get access to the back office which is where you find all the info you need to market and run the business.

How much does it cost? That is, pardon the phrase, the million dollar question. What it costs can vary, could be a few dollars upfront, a few thousand to buy a product or a monthly fee. Best thing to do is read the fine print on the company website.

How do I get paid? Another big question, and again that depends on the company. Some pay like any other company in that they pay at regular intervals (e.g. every 2 weeks). Other companies pay once your account reaches a pre-determined amount, and even some others let you get paid first, you take the commission right off the top before paying the company. Now the method of payment also varies from company to company, some will send you a cheque, some offer direct deposit to your bank and some will pay to sites like Paypal, Alertpay, etc.... Check out the companies website for their compensation plan.

Do I need sales experience to run my business? This is the big question, the thing that keeps most people from getting involved, the dreaded sales game. Sales experience is not required, the company will provide some sort of training, whether it be training calls, emails, ebooks or other methods. As well your upline, or advisor, will be there to mentor you. In the business I am in you can contact anyone in the company to request advice. Almost every member remembers what it is like to start out, and they will share what worked for them. The bottom line is dont be afraid to ask, amazing the different perspectives on running a business you will find.

Do I need my own website? No, it is not necessary, remember earlier I said the company will set you up with one of their websites. You can certainly use that to market with, and have success. However, if you plan to use offline ads (newspapers, mail ads, etc..) you will be better off getting a website of your own with an easy to remember name, you want to make it easy for people to remember it when they are typing, if it is a really long, drawn out title they may misspell and will not visit your site. The benefit of your own site is that you can really make it your own, add your video, audio, pictures...make it original and catchy. You usually cant do that with your company website. Most people will set up their website to market with, and they use that in all their advertising. Once a contact becomes a serious prospect, the company page will give them the information and allow them to sign up. You can also get an autoresponder form placed on your site, which allows contacts to enter their information to get you to either contact them or get information about your company.

What is an autoresponder? An autoresponder program is a program that you can set up to deliver emails to potential prospects with your information at an interval you set up (e.g. Daily emails). Most autoresponders allow you to generate a form to place on your website which once a visitor fills out the form, their information is added to the autoresponder list. The first email they will received is a confirmation email, so that if they want to continue receiving your emails, they have to confirm by clicking a link. They can also unsubscribe through the same email. Once they opt-in they receive a set of emails that you have already set up.

What is an upline/downline? An upline is the person who sponsored you, and those above them. A downline is, of course, those you sponsor and those below them.

How do I market? Ah yes the way to get your information out there. Once you sign up and get the product and the website, now you have to get the link and the ads out there. You can have the greatest product in the world, but if no one knows about it, well you what will happen!! So marketing is a very big key, because in order to get quality traffic to your site, you need to market where the people who want your product are. Now there are many, many ways to market...both online and offline, and free and paid as well.

One thing that is good to do is make a budget for how much you want to spend a month on advertising. As your business grows, of course your budget will too. It is very easy to get carried away with advertising and blow all your money in that one month, best plan is to prepare for zero sales your first month, and budget from that. That way if you make a sale, all the better, but if you dont you are not depending on that money to feed your advertising budget. Spread the ads between free and paid services, and experiment...be creative, be original. Keep track of your ads and how well they work, you will find certain ads work for different types of media. Best advice, think outside the box, advertise your own way, again be original.

So you now have a better understanding of home business, why not give it a try....??
